“GANG OF THIEVES”

TEAM IS A FOUR-LETTER WORD

There they were, an elite squad of eight 30-something Ivy League business school pedigrees, elegant in $3,000 vested blue suits punctuated with red and blue rep ties and a business plan as buttoned down as their starched white collars. Spectra Maritime Freight Corp. had been afloat for two years and was already delivering two dimes before taxes. Short of the necessary capital, they were ready to expand from eight international warehouse co-op rental spaces to a worldwide O&O office network.

COVER YOUR ASSETS (CYA).

Orangethorpe Capital’s Risk Manager’s top line vetting checked out and the potential for a multimillion dollar underwriting deal was for real. However, as a key ingredient in its pre-transaction investigation model, domestic and international Corporate & Management Reports were ordered covering all of the individuals, affiliated corporations and jurisdictions in the U.S., Europe and Latin America. International Fraud, Office of Foreign Assets, licenses and certifications, and media databases along with manual court record searches were included in the investigation strategies.

WE WERE INCREDULOUS.

Somebody missed the blue suede shoes. The gang was decorated with a “What’s What” of illegal activities. Civil and criminal suits, TRO’s, breaches of contract, sexual harassment, fraud, defamation, wrongful terminations, license misrepresentations, bankruptcies, tax liens, judgments, both domestically and internationally. No one could figure out how they had hoodwinked so many for so long. But for Orangethorpe, it was in fact, “so long...guys!“

EPILOGUE

Last anyone heard was they were in court fighting for their freedom. Our Client, as well as our research analysts, did not celebrate in the end zone. We would rather see our clients flourish with honest, profitable, win-win deals with good guys, which is almost always the case. But, every once in a while, and you never know it until you know it, a high-stakes heist is about to hit. Character counts and it always will.
