The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is the U.S. federal agency that enforces laws prohibiting employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity), national origin, age (40+), disability, or genetic information. The EEOC investigates discrimination charges, attempts conciliation, and can file lawsuits when necessary to protect workers’ rights. It also provides training, outreach, and technical assistance to prevent discrimination before it occurs.
The EEOC processes tens of thousands of discrimination complaints each year and works with state and local agencies to enforce equal employment laws nationwide.
